Dear Educators and Coaches

We are excited to announce the launch of the third edition of the SASDB and CSA&G Writing Competition! This competition is an opportunity for high school learners to become published authors and add their voices to important issues in our nation.

We invite all high school learners to submit a written entry of no longer than 1000 words on the theme The Covid-19 Pandemic: Viruses, Villains, Victims and Victors. The entry can be an opinion piece, reflective essay, short, story or poem. The due date for submissions is 21 March 2022. The top 30 entries will be selected for publication in a book through the Centre for Sexualities, AIDS and Gender at the University of Pretoria.

To assist learners with their entry, we will be hosting two online workshops on the 23rd and 25th of February. Please refer to the attached letter for more information on the workshops and how to submit an entry. Please complete the link below to register your school (or yourself individually) for the workshops.

Please note that this competition is open to all learners and not just debaters. We hope you share this information with your school English departments and writing clubs.

Kind regards,
The Centre for Sexualities, AIDS and Gender and the South African Schools’ Debating Board
